Popcorn

Popcorn - Fun To Cook, Fun To Eat

Popcorn, A Good Movie And You
For the overworked, bored or stressed, there is nothing like a good movie to chase away the doldrums. And, what's a movie without popcorn? You go to the theater, buy a ticket and the next thing you are aware of is the overpowering scent of popcorn freshly buttered. It's a given that you just have to have the largest bucket of popcorn with lots of melted butter. Popcorn is an all-time favorite at most baseball, football and basketball games too. No carnival is complete without a popcorn stand. It's a "buy and eat as you go" treat. There's no mess as with candy or ice cream. Those tasty little kernels fairly beg to be eaten.

Think About Popcorn
When you consider that popcorn is a tiny kernel of corn that explodes into a light, fluffy and delectable taste treat, it's a pretty amazing feat of magic. Perhaps, that's why it's so popular. For kids, watching the kernels pop is the ultimate fun. Popcorn can be made in an electric popcorn maker or simply placed in a brown bag and popped in a microwave oven. There are other commercial popcorn products that allow the popcorn to pop on top of the stove with a medium heat beneath the foil covered pan. Popcorn is generally popped when the air in a microwave or the popcorn maker reaches a specific temperature. Some electric popcorn poppers have a special well at the top where a little butter may be placed. The butter melts as the heat rises in the popcorn popper.

Popcorn In The Ruff
Popcorn can be cooked nearly anywhere. It's a nice addition to a barbecue or picnic too. For popcorn in the ruff at a barbecue, simply place the corn kernels inside well-oiled foil and secure by twisting the ends. The foil should have enough room for all of the kernels to expand. Use long tongs to hold the foil packet over the barbecue flame to avoid burning. In a few minutes, popcorn will be freshly popped. In winter when everyone is beginning to suffer from "cabin fever", make popcorn as a change of pace. Popcorn can also be popped in a fireplace. Most department stores that sell fireplace accessories sell long-handled corn poppers specifically made for popping corn in a fire place.

Tips On Making Good Popcorn
Making good popcorn isn't an accident. Making popcorn borders on popcorn art. Popcorn should be popped only until the popping sound subsides. Avoid popping too long in a microwave or popcorn popper. In a microwave, the popcorn can scorch and the taste will be quite unpleasant. In a popcorn popper, there is usually an automatic shut-off or timer that will cease the popping when it is completely popped. Purchase only fresh popcorn kernels. Popcorn doesn't have a long shelf-life and the result may be that it simply won't pop. Salt should be added after, not before, cooking. The reason is that salt increases temperature in heating processes.

popcorn is my one weakness in life - huge bowl, lots of butter, salt, mmmmmm its truly my favorite and I really cant imagine living without it! I will no longer buy it in the movies though as I have seen whats really in that fake butter stuff and it isnt pretty. I also will not use the microwave to make popcorn, fresh popped in oil is the only way to go. Often at home I will put garlic on it or pop it in coconut oil.

lotuspetal thanks for stopping by to leave a comment. I know what you mean about icky movie popcorn. I try and pop up a big bag before I go to the theater and sneak it in, it's much easier to sneak in during the winter when I have a big coat. :)

Feed me popcorn... and you can get me to do just about anything. Well.... you know....

James I know what you mean, fresh popcorn is a great treat...

I loved reading this intel. It is the last I'll be reading tonight. Light and fluffy (popcorn I mean).

Mum used to grow Indian Popcorn, have you ever seen it? The kernals are all different colors but when popped is white.

Hi Laraine, growing up we used to hang colored corn cobs still partly in their husks from the door in the fall as a decoration, I always like the blue. But I've never popped colored corn, it would be cool if it popped up in colors.

Thanks for stopping by...
